Chengdu, key for China on economic integration, says Spanish professor before Fortune forum
Xinhua News Agency
May 18, 2013

Pankaj Ghemawat, a professor of global strategy at the IESE Business School, believes that the Chinese southwestern city of Chengdu will play a very important role in China's integration in the global economy.

Chengdu, the capital city of China's Sichuan Province, "will carry out a very important role in not only assuring that China is increasingly integrated in the global economy, but also in ensuring that the levels of integration within China will remain high and that those people who live in the interior of the country will not be left behind," said the professor before attending a forum there.

Roberto Carvalho de Azevêdo, the next head of the World Trade Organization said on Wednesday that the institution needed to adapt as the United States and other nations turn away from the multilateral forum to regional trade agreements.

The World Is Not Global: It's Local
Forbes
April 23, 2013

The word “global” has now become the new buzzword of business.  What isn’t global these days?

While we certainly live in a highly interconnected world, the business world is not as “flat” as Thomas Friedman once predicted. Quite the contrary in fact. There is no “global market” for goods and service, rather there are now a set of globally connected “local” businesses.

We are just completing a year long effort to study best-practices in the structure of Human Resources. What we found is that while companies want order and consistency around the world, the highest-performing companies don’t standardize everything:  theylocalize.

Globalózungok vezetik félre a gondolkodásunk
Index
April 22, 2013

MANAGEMENT CONSULTING CEO: Our Clients Want More Than Just MBAs
Business Insider
April 11, 2013

Once a dependable employer for business school graduates, management consulting firms are starting to consider other candidates.

The industry looks for people who can combine analysis with presentation skills and management insight. While a degree from Harvard Business School goes a long way, it can't always compete with deep industry expertise.

Boston Consulting Group (BCG) CEO Rich Lesser tells the Wall Street Journal how his recruiting has changed:

What has changed is the kind of teams our clients expect. They want a depth of expertise in particular industry sectors or functions, so the breadth of talent that we draw on is broader. We still hire—in the U.S., in particular—large numbers from business schools, but we also hire people with different post-graduate degrees: doctors, Ph.D.s, lawyers. And we hire more people from industries, at all levels, who can bring insight and expertise.

Research?  Most people cannot understand it
Financial Times
April 7, 2013

Academics are not as irrelevant as Larry Zicklin suggests, but neither are they as central to the world of business as they believe, says Pankaj Ghemawat. The professor of global strategy at IESE Business School in Spain, says business school academics must do a better job of getting their ideas out there.

EU will junge Europäer zu Migranten machen
Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten
March 14, 2013

Changing perceptions on globalization
Marwar
March, 2013

He may be a professor, but he’s not a pedagogue. When he describes why the world isn’t flat and why we aren’t as globalised as we think we are, he talks of apocalypse and economics, hunter-gatherers and tsunamis, quoting the French poet Jean de la Fontaine and the director-general of the WTO, Pascal Lamy, with equal ease. Educated at Harvard, prodigiously intelligent and possessing a wonderful sense of humour, Dr Pankaj Ghemawat is an economist and global strategist who has changed the way we view globalisation.

Türkiye'nin çekiciliği artıyor
Bloomberg
February 28, 2013

360 Steelcase
January 29, 2013

Pankaj Ghemawat was born in Jodhpur, India, educated at Harvard, teaches global strategy at IESE Business School in Barcelona, and consults with businesses around the world. In his new book, “World 3.0: Global Prosperity and How to Achieve It”, he argues that contrary to another best-selling book the world is not flat, that local culture, geography, and borders still drive individual and corporate behavior.

“You may not be as global as you think”

La mondialisation recule
Le Journal
January 13, 2013

We have never been shy of investing in our people: Subramaniam Ramadorai.
Interview with Non-Executive Vice Chairman, TCS Interview with Non-Executive Vice Chairman, TCS.
Business Standard
January 7, 2013

Ramadorai, under whose stewardship the company’s annual revenue grew from $160 million in 1996 to $6 billion in 2009, tells Sayantani Kar what it takes to build an enduring business.

When you took over from F.C. Kohli as CEO, the building blocks of the company were still being laid. Compared to your predecessor, how did your list of growth factors differ?
We had been part of the creation and the evolution of the industry. To us, it was very clear that India was going to be very critical to acquire and disseminate technology whenever the market opened up. We understood that technology was mainly available from the West, the US, and we had to build capabilities through the human capital that was available to us. So, when I took over (in 1996), the fundamentals never changed because I was already a part of that from the beginning.

De wereld plat? Bij lange na niet
Trouw.nl
January 7, 2013
